About Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard

One of the top firms in Sacramento, Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard has specialized in public agency law since 1959. The firm's attorneys have helped shape water law and policy in California and now practice in a range of areas including natural resources, public finance, education, employment and business law.

The Fluidity of Water Law

In its early years, Kronick Moskovitz only worked with water. The founding partners--Stanley Kronick and Adolph Moskovitz--had first met as staff attorneys for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, where they developed a water allocation plan that inspired the major water and hydroelectric projects implemented by California Governor Edmund G. Brown. But the firm's tributaries of water and water-related resource law soon branched out into thriving practices in other areas of public agency law. Its legal team of over 60 attorneys practice in areas of law including banking and creditors rights, business law, climate change, construction, education, environmental, insurance, employment, real estate, tax and estate planning.

With headquarters in the state capitol and offices in Bakersfield, Roseville, San Luis Obispo and Walnut Creek, Kronick Moskovitz has spread throughout the Golden State. Kronick Moskovitz clients have included school districts, municipalities and state agencies, water districts and power authorities in matters that involve such areas of law as real estate, education, employment and labor and public finance. Representative clients have included the Calaveras County Water District, the California Department of Corrections, the Stockton Unified School District, the cities of Elk Grove and Los Angeles and the Association of California Water Agencies' Joint Powers Insurance Authority.

Both Sides of the Private/Public Divide

But the firm is not just a government shop; Kronick Moskovitz attorneys have represented large companies like MCI and Albertson's Inc., and they have earned accolades from Corporate Board Member magazine and ranked in the top Sacramento firms in a survey of 2,000 U.S. corporation heads. The firm has also stood off with the state in a long-running litigation battle for victims of the 1986 Yuba River flood, eventually winning compensation for plaintiffs after a judge ruled that the state was liable for not having repaired a levee. The firm also works with private entities most likely to be affected by changes in water law, like landowners, vineyards and developers.
