About Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller

Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller is a Philadelphia-based firm known for its trial and appellate work. Now with more than 50 attorneys and offices in Harrisburg, Norristown and Cherry Hill, the firm has represented private corporations, individual clients, universities, governmental bodies and regional professional firms.

Slow and Steady

Founded in 1994, Hangley Aronchick has developed practices in bankruptcy, corporate law, education, environmental law, family law, insurance coverage, litigation, real estate and tax law. Its active litigation department has represented the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the City of Philadelphia, Delaware Valley universities and healthcare institutions and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Although Hangley has grown from 17 attorneys to 47 in the last couple of decades, its site claims the firm is in "no rush to get bigger."

For a young firm, Hangley Aronchick has already shown a precocious flair for involvement in hot political issues. One firm partner, for example, represented Navy veteran Steven Stefanowicz when the Abu Ghraib interrogator was accused of facilitating prisoner abuse at the Iraqi prison. Another former partner, Cheryl Krause, went on to serve as deputy state counsel for the John Kerry presidential campaign, and she led a team striving to correct voting problems in Pennsylvania. Name partner Mark Aronchick, who calls election law a "hobby" of his, served as a pro bono election law consultant for Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.

Through other pro bono work, the firm has tackled some headline issues--like judicial corruption in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, where two judges took millions of dollars in bribes from private detention facility owners eager to fill their facilities to maximum capacity. Hangley Aronchick attorneys represented about 4,000 juveniles who had been sentenced to serve time in those facilities, some who had been sentenced without counsel.

Hangley Aronchick attorneys pride themselves on their senses of humor as much as their professional accomplishments. The site's "Lighter Side" section reprints intra-office e-mail jokes, highlights from executive committee meeting minutes (including one meeting at which it was decided that partner David Pudlin was a "people" person) and an explanation of HASP time ("the average of the time on the clocks on your computer, telephone and blackberry"). The firm also hosts free Friday lunches, where partners and associates can compete for Iron Chef bragging rights.
