One of New Jersey's largest firms, the growing Gibbons has made
it to National Law Journal's "Midsize Hot List" and
continues to position itself as a standout in mid-Atlantic,
A Strong Constitution
In 1926, World War I veteran and Harvard Law graduate Andrew
Crummy founded a law firm in Newark and spent the firm's first
decade concentrating on tax law and corporate governance and
reorganization cases. Since then, the firm has been busy getting
bigger, with new buildings, new branding, new mergers and new
talent. In 2007 the firm officially dropped its longer moniker
(Gibbons, Del Deo, Dolan, Griffinger & Vecchione) in favor of
the more to-the-point "Gibbons." Beyond Newark, Gibbons has opened
offices in New York, Philadelphia, and Wilmington, and through an
outpost in the Garden State capital of Trenton earned the top
ranking for New Jersey Lawyer-Lobbying Firms.
The firm is best known for its litigation department, which
tackles litigation disputes in areas including commercial,
environmental, health care law, products liability, and white
collar crime. Former judge and firm standard-bearer John Gibbons is
the co-founder of the John J. Gibbons Fellowship in Public Interest
and Constitutional Law, which undertakes public interest and
constitutional law projects. The firm itself takes constitutional
law seriously in its own work-it has partnered with the ACLU and
several other advocacy groups investigating rights abuses of
prisoners in Abu Ghraib and other overseas prisons.
Beyond litigation, the firm's main areas of practice include
corporate law, employment and labor law, financial restructuring
and creditors' rights, government affairs, intellectual property,
and real property and environmental law.
In the quality-of-life arena, the firm has been honored by
Multicultural Law Magazine as one of the top 100 best
firms for diversity. Gibbons has also received accolades from
NJBIZ magazine as one of the Garden State's "Best Place to
Work," was a 2009 winner of the prestigious Catalyst Award for its
innovative Women's Initiative, and is ranked one of the top 50
firms nationwide for working women by Working Mother.
Plus, the firm cares about fun: its latest headquarters at One
Gateway Center in Newark sports an attorney lounge, and in 2011,
the firm kicked off its 85th anniversary with a MetLife Stadium
concert by The Nerds.
