About Norton Rose Fulbright

Norton Rose Fulbright has a long legacy in the United States that spans more than nine decades of practice in dispute resolution and litigation, transactional business law and intellectual property.

Teaming Up to Go Global

Norton Rose Fulbright is the product of one of the largest combinations within the legal profession in recent history. The U.S. law firm Fulbright & Jaworski joined with U.K.-based Norton Rose on June 3, 2013 to form Norton Rose Fulbright. Norton Rose Fulbright now has more than 3800 lawyers based in over 50 cities across the United States, Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

While providing major corporations and financial institutions across the globe with a full array of business law services, Norton Rose Fulbright also works with innovative startups, particularly in the United States and wherever creative entrepreneurs are reshaping the marketplace. Norton Rose provides service across all key industry sectors: financial institutions; energy; infrastructure, mining and commodities; transport; technology and innovation; and life sciences and healthcare.

Putting Brand and Values into Action

Norton Rose Fulbright operates in accordance with its global business principles of quality, unity and integrity. A recent example of celebrating its global brand and team culture was the firm's corporate partnership with the McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team. It was also appointed as the global legal advisor to the McLaren Group.

Additionally, the firm participated in the 2014 BP MS 150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin. One hundred and forty-seven riders from 24 offices around the world participated, and Norton Rose Fulbright raised more than $300,000 for multiple sclerosis charities worldwide.

In another recent global initiative, the firm sponsored the Norton Rose Fulbright Sail the World Challenge, a two-year circumnavigation of the world by the Jubilee Sailing Trust's tall ship, Lord Nelson. Upon the ride's completion, the ship will have taken its mixed crews of disabled and able-bodied sailors four times across the equator, reaching seven continents, covering 50,000 miles and visiting 30 countries.

The Greatest Show on Earth
Norton Rose Fulbright obtained a landmark settlement for Feld Entertainment, Inc., owner of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, with the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Under the settlement, ASPCA has paid Feld Entertainment to settle all claims related to its part in more than a decade of manufactured litigation that attempted to outlaw elephants in the circus. The litigation continues against other involved parties. The judge ruled that those parties are also responsible for Feld Entertainment's legal fees.

What Happens in Vegas…
Norton Rose Fulbright represented Hong Kong-based Round Square Co, Ltd and its principal, Richard Suen, in a $100 million suit against the Las Vegas Sands Corp (LVS) after LVS reneged on its promise to pay Suen for helping LVS obtain a lucrative gaming license in Macau, China. This complex matter featured testimony concerning the political and cultural relationships between China's central government and the Special Administrative Region of Macau, the ancient Chinese practice of guanxi and the rapid growth and development of the world's largest gaming market.

We Can't All Be Whistleblowers
Norton Rose Fulbright represented GE Energy in a widely-watched suit alleging that a former employee's job was terminated in retaliation for reporting an alleged Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violation, thereby contravening the Whistleblower Protection provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act. Norton Rose Fulbright represented GE in the district court, where it obtained a dismissal on the ground that the Dodd-Frank provisions he invoked do not apply extraterritorially. On appeal, the Fifth Circuit affirmed on other grounds, holding that the former employee did not qualify as a whistleblower under the terms of the statute because he did not report to the SEC until after his termination.

LNG A'Plenty
Norton Rose Fulbright assisted EOG Resources, Inc. and its Canadian affiliates in acquiring Galveston LNG Inc.; developing a natural gas liquefaction plant and export terminal in British Columbia, Canada; and in the sale of a stake in the project to Encana Corporation. The $4 billion LNG project is expected to become North America's first new-build natural gas liquefaction plant and export terminal.

Norton Rose Fulbright represented the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and its individual players in an arbitration hearing related to allegations that certain players on the New Orleans Saints offered payments or 'bounties' to team mates for purposely injuring opposing players. After an initial hearing, suspensions totalling 31 games were levied against four players. Norton Rose Fulbright embarked on an extensive appeals process and, after a full hearing, all the suspensions were vacated.

Handbag Hawkers Beware
Norton Rose Fulbright represented Louis Vuitton Malletier, the global luxury fashion house, in a new legal precedent by holding liable a flea market, its owner and on-site manager for contributing to trade mark infringement by allowing tenants to sell counterfeit Louis Vuitton merchandise. The jury held the defendants jointly and severally liable for $3.6 million in compensatory damages and required that language be added to the market's lease agreement prohibiting the sale of any products bearing the Louis Vuitton mark.

The total consideration was $2.3 billion, paid in cash at closing, and in the form of a carry toward the cost of development operations undertaken after closing.
