About Cozen O'Connor

Cozen O'Connor is a full-service North American law firm of over 600 attorneys in 23 offices across the US, UK, and Canada. Through the firm's main practice areas of litigation, corporate and regulatory law, and government relations, Cozen O'Connor provides legal assistance in everything from bankruptcy to toxic contamination and other mass torts for large corporations and other companies. The firm serves clients on the federal, state and local level and before both the executive and legislative branches of government. Cozen O'Connor's diverse client list includes global Fortune 500 companies, middle-market firms poised for growth, ambitious startups, and high-profile individuals. The firm's clients include BP, Gulf Insurance, and Fox Chase Cancer Center.

A Government Asset

Founded in 1970 by Stephen A. Cozen, the firm's origins of four lawyers practicing insurance and commercial litigation has grown to become a full-service law firm focusing on litigation, business law, and government relations. The firm serves as a trusted advisor and lead dealmaker on behalf of an impressive roster of national and international corporate clients, including La Colombe, Beach Body, and ARAMARK.

Cozen O'Connor's clients trust the firm with important transactions, as well as bet-the-company litigation. For example, the firm represented Utz Quality Foods, LLC, the largest privately held snack food company in the United States, in connection with its acquisition of Alabama-based snack food company Golden Enterprises, Inc. The acquisition was financed through an investment in Utz of more than $146 million by private equity firm Metropoulos & Co. Additionally, Cozen O'Connor represented the Vetri Family of Restaurants in connection with its sale to Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN). Following the sale, Vetri leads a food and beverage division for the global lifestyle retailer, positioning the Vetri Family brands for national growth as part of the Urban Outfitters family.

The firm secured a high-stakes and closely watched appeal before the National Labor Relations Board centering on efforts by the football team at Northwestern University to form the first-ever union of scholarship student athletes. And we represented GoDaddy in a $30 million, "bet-the-industry" cybersquatting action garnering national media attention, which was featured in the Daily Journal's Top Verdicts of 2015.

A Diverse Team

The firm's professionals have held high-level political positions in Republican and Democratic administrations; worked for members of Congress and congressional and state committees; and run federal, state, and local political campaigns. In order to promote a more diverse and inclusive workplace, the firm established a Diversity Committee in the late 1990s that is comprised of attorneys across the firm's 23 offices. . In 2014, the firm created the position of Director of Diversity & Inclusion and appointed a practicing, partner-level attorney, Kimya Johnson, to devote 100 percent of her time to that role. With the creation of this leadership position, Cozen O'Connor joined a select group of law firms in the country with a full-time professional dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives. The firm's aim to be an equal opportunity employer has landed among the top 25 law firms for black attorneys and top 100 law firms for female attorneys by Law360.
