Formed in the late nineteenth century in the then booming oil town of Fort Worth, Texas, Cantey Hanger has grown into a mid-sized full-service firm with three offices throughout Texas, serving clients in industries ranging from automotive to waste management.

Fort Worth Your While

In 1883, attorneys William Capps and S.B. Cantey Sr. formed a law firm in Fort Worth, and Texas state senator and criminal law attorney William Hanger joined the practice in 1905. In its early years, the firm represented banks, utilities, and transportation companies, industries which still make up a portion of its client base today.

The bulk of Cantey Hanger's legal team remains in its Fort Worth headquarters, but the firm opened a Dallas office in 1990 and a Southlake office in 2005.

General Practice Makes Perfect

Attorneys at Cantey Hanger, a true general practice firm, can expect to work on a broad spectrum of matters from commercial litigation to high-profile transactions. The firm has been recognized as a Dallas leader in ERISA law, trust & estate litigation, and commercial litigation, to name a few. Cantey Hanger is particularly active in the employment litigation arena, recently defending Bell Helicopter from a wrongful termination law suit. The labor law department also handles safe working conditions cases, union organizing and strike situations, and workplace discrimination litigation.

Cantey Hanger has worked with clients like Frito Lay, Atmost Energy Corporation, Prudential Insurance, U.S.A. Inc., Cendant Corporation, Fidelity Title Group., Mercury Exploration Corporation, Wells Fargo, and Miller Brewing Company.

The firm also has a lobbying arm, representing clients before local, state, and federal government bodies. And its public and regulatory department is not the firm's only connection with the government--Fort Worth counsel Brian Newby served as Chief of Staff to Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Legal Aid, Family Law

On the pro bono side, many Carney Hanger attorneys devote their time to taking on family law cases, including divorce, custody, and child support cases, for Legal Aid. Spokespeople for Legal Aid have said that Cantey Hanger's assistance is particularly crucial because many legal volunteers prefer to avoid family law.
