About the Company

Twitter is much more than a social media company. It’s a culture creator, a celebrity maker, even a virtual news source. Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone started designing Twitter using Ruby on Rails in 2006. Originally a side project to an attempted podcast platform called Odeo, Twitter was originally “Twttr” and started as a simple short message service (SMS). Jack Dorsey finished the first version of the platform and debuted it at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas in March 2007. After a successful debut and peaked interest from capital investors, Twitter Inc. was founded in April 2007.
