Forget about 24-hour news, this company files reports on Internet time. NBC News Digital operates NBCNews.com, a leading online news site. Formerly MSNBC Interactive News, the business is the online channel for the NBCUniversal's various news holdings, including the Today show, NBC Nightly News, Dateline NBC, and Meet the Press. MSNBC Interactive News was formed in 1996 as a 50-50 partnership, jointly owned by software giant Microsoft (through its MSN division) and NBC Universal, which is 51%-owned by cable giant Comcast. However, in 2012 Microsoft pulled out of the venture to form its own online news service. MSNBC Interactive subsequently changed its name and moved from Redmond, Washington to New York City.
In its former incarnation as MSNBC.com, the site became one of the most popular online news sources. The site, which generates revenue primarily through advertising, consistently ranked as one of the Web's top three news sites. As NBC News Digital, it reaches an audience of more than 58 million unique visitors who generate more than 1.2 billion page views and 140 million online video streams each month. Microsoft reportedly sold its stake to NBCUniversal for some $300 million.
