About the Company

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America was founded in 1860 by a group of German American businessmen and a civil rights lawyer named Hugo Wesendonck. In the late 1950s, it expanded its business into the employee benefits market, and began offering disability insurance after merging with the Berkshire Life Insurance Company. Today, The Guardian has more than 8,000 employees, and its corporate headquarters is located in Manhattan, New York.
