Allied Group is central to many Midwesterners. A subsidiary of multiline insurer Nationwide Mutual, the company provides a variety of property/casualty insurance products including auto, farm, and homeowners policies. In addition Allied Group, also known as Allied Insurance, offers specialized commercial policies for small to midsized businesses, along with coverage for home-based businesses. The group includes such units as AMCO Insurance, Depositors Insurance, Nationwide Insurance Company of America, and Allied Property and Casualty Insurance, which work through about 4,000 independent agents, as well as a direct-response marketing staff, in more than 30 states in the central, southern, and western US.
Property/casualty insurance accounts for the largest segment (some 70%) of parent Nationwide's sales. In turn, Allied Insurance makes up about a quarter of the segment's revenues.
In addition to auto, home, and business coverage, Allied Group's property/casualty policies include identity theft protection, commercial liability protection, renters' insurance, boat owners' policies, and ranch equipment and livestock coverage (in partnership with sister company Nationwide Agribusiness). The company's auto policies include standard liability and full coverage options, as well as roadside assistance plans, accident settlement gap coverage, and safe driver rewards.
The Allied Group, which was founded in 1929 as Allied Mutual Automobile Association, offers local market expertise through regional offices in Denver; Des Moines, Iowa; Gainesville, Florida; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Sacramento, California. The company was acquired by Nationwide in 1998.
