The Man

Man Investments is a British-based hedge fund firm with roots that date back to 1783. Its holding company, Man Group plc, is a public entity and trades on the London Stock Exchange. Man (as it's often referred to) is currently the third-largest hedge fund in the world, with more than $40 billion in assets under management. It takes long positions only (no shorts) in a variety of investment vehicles on behalf of a variety of clients around the globe. Its quantitative investment management unit is called AHL, and its multi-strategy global investment specialist unit is called GLG (Man acquired GLG, a New York-headquartered hedge fund, for $1.6 billion in 2010). Man is headquartered in London, and operates through additional offices in several major financial centers around the world. In the U.S., Man has outposts in New York, Chicago, and Miami. Worldwide, the firm employs about 1,700 people. The firm is led by its CEO, Peter Clarke.
