Founded in 2001, Adage Capital is a hedge fund firm headquartered in Boston with more than $25 billion in assets. The firm concentrates on investing in S&P 500 companies on behalf of endowments and foundations, including Harvard University, Northwestern University, Dartmouth College, the American Red Cross, and the Getty Foundation. Recent or current equity holdings include Apple, AT&T, Berkshire Hathaway, Chevron, Coca-Cola, Exxon, GE, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Raytheon, Tyco, and Wells Fargo. Adage Capital was founded by Philip Gross (the current head of the firm) and Robert Atchinson. Prior to starting their own fund, both men worked for Harvard Management Company. Gross worked there for 18 years; Atchinson for 10.
