The US Marshals Service is the nation's oldest federal law enforcement agency. The service, established in 1789, is the enforcement arm of the US Department of Justice.  Some 94 US Marshals and more than 3,300 deputy marshals perform a range of duties including protecting federal judicial officials, conducting federal fugitive investigations, and managing witness security programs. The USMS also oversees the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation system (responsible for moving and transferring prisoners and aliens between various locations) and is responsible for disposing of seized and forfeited properties through the Asset Forfeiture Program. The USMS has an annual budget of more than $930 million.
