U S OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

The staff at the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) are the people behind the people. The OPM is the central human resources agency for the US federal government, tasked with ensuring the government has an effective civilian workforce. The office develops and supports federal human resources management policies, including pay, performance management, employee benefits, workforce planning and information, and executive development. The agency also maintains the federal employee retirement program. The OPM works from four operating centers and field offices across the US and has an annual budget of more than $2 billion.

Strategy

Going forward, OPM has developed strategic plans that are focused on IT operations, supply purchases from small businesses, sustainability, and more efficient processing of retirement annuities. Noteworthy duties assigned to OPM include managing USAJOBS.gov, the federal hiring Web site, rolling out the multi-state health plan options of the Affordable Care Act, and 90% of background investigations of federal applicants.
