About the Company

Tyson Foods began with John W. Tyson in 1931, in the middle of the toil and strife of the Great Depression. In search of opportunity and a better life, he moved his family to Arkansas. His grand opportunity came in the form of thousands of clucking chickens, thus starting the great poultry tradition Tyson Foods is known for today. The business took off during World War II, since poultry was not rationed. Tyson began raising chicks and selling feed for a demanding local community. The company was officially incorporated in 1947 as Tyson Feed and Hatchery, Inc. It came out of the tension and turmoil of the 1930s and 1940s with a strong foundation and dependable market.
