You might say Shamrock Foods is milking the foodservice business for all it's worth. Distribution business Shamrock Foods ranks in the top 10 US foodservices companies while its Shamrock Farms unit represents one of the largest dairy operators in the southwestern US. The company's distribution operations supply food and related products to foodservice operators in the Intermountain region through a handful of distribution centers, one each in Denver, Phoenix, Southern California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shamrock Farms, home to more than 10,000 cows, produces and offers a full line of dairy products including fluid milk, half and half, heavy and sour cream, cottage cheese, and frozen ice cream treats.
Shamrock Foods carries some 16,000 foodservice products, including fresh produce, dry groceries, frozen foods, ethnic specialties, meat, seafood, and beverages, along with Shamrock Farms' dairy products. It also carries cleaning and paper products, and other supplies and equipment. The company's distribution area includes Arizona and New Mexico, plus parts of California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas. Its customers include restaurants, fast-food outlet, schools, hospitals, and institutions.
The company works to develop new products and maintains relationships with other businesses to keep its products in front of customers. Shamrock Farms sells Rockin' Refuel, a protein-fortified chocolate milk that the company says helps rebuild and repair muscles after exercise. In addition to its Shamrock-branded dairy products, the dairy company offers private-label services and is the milk supplier for all US Subway sandwich shops.
Founded in 1922 as a mom-and-pop dairy, Shamrock Foods is still owned and operated by the founding McClelland family.
