Escort has built a business to help escort its customers safely past radar guns. The company, best known for manufacturing laser and radar detectors, primarily sells its products under its flagship Passport brand. It also makes the SOLO battery-operated radar and laser detector, as well as the Road Tech detector through a joint venture with Harley-Davidson. Escort launched its RedLine radar and laser detector in 2009. The product rollout follows the launch in 2007 of its global positioning system version of Passport, which offers TrueLock to eliminate false alerts. Falconhead Capital LLC owns a majority stake in the company. Escort executives switched seats in 2008.
Greg Blair, the company's co-founder, gave his CEO title to John Larson in February 2008. Larson had joined Escort as its president in June 2007 after having logged a 20-year-career at General Motors Corporation. As part of the succession, Blair was named chairman.
Escort maintains a principal manufacturing operation in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. In recent years, the company has extended its reach into GPS technology. Through a licensing agreement, Escort peddles its products via Blackline GPS Corp., which makes security, tracking, and monitoring devices.
