Whether it's in your school, your town, your state, or your favorite charity, SunGard Public Sector thrives on bureaucracy. The company provides enterprise resource planning (ERP) and administrative software and services for more than 2,000 public-sector organizations ranging from utility companies and schools to public safety departments and government agencies. Its offerings include applications for state and local governments, law enforcement agencies, and utility companies. The company also offers consulting services. SunGard Public Sector, a unit of financial services software maker SunGard Data Systems, sells its products primarily in the US.
In 2010 the company launched a new software suite geared toward its largest customer segment, local governments. ONESolution is an ERP suite designed to allow various departments to exchange data and information. Citizens and public employees can also access websites (including payment collections) and intranets with the accompanying ePortal.
Setting its sights on another of its target markets, SunGard Public Sector expanded its K-12 education-based offerings in 2009 with the acquisition of Performance Pathways, Inc., which offers curriculum management software for teachers. Performance Pathways' software became PerformancePLUS, offered through its PLUS 360 suite for schools.
In late 2010 SunGard Public Sector sold its SunGard Public Sector UK unit to UK-based The Capita Group for about £86 million (around $133 million). The Capita Group gains a number of new services for the government sector in its geographic market, while SunGard focuses on its US operations. SunGard Public Sector UK was formed from the combination of SunGard Vivista and SunGard Aspiren after a company reorganization in 2008.
