Embarcadero's software is used for modeling, change management, performance optimization, and administration of database platforms made by Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft. It has offices in nearly 30 countries. Founded in 1993, the company is owned by private equity group Thoma Cressey Bravo.
Embarcadero's tools are designed to help software developers and businesses that manage data design, build, and optimize their enterprise applications and database systems across a number of database platforms, operating systems, frameworks, and programming languages.
The company continues to introduce new products to keep pace with evolving industry standards. In 2012 Embarcadero launched a new tool for mobile and Web app development called HTML5 Builder to address the growing usage of mobile and Web-based computing systems. The previous year it rolled out AppWave (a free PC app store). The previous year Embarcadero introduced ToolCloud (centralized license management with on-demand access) and DBArtisan XE and Rapid SQL XE.
Also in 2012 the company formed a sales and marketing partnership with UK-based IT services provider Logica to promote Embarcadero's AppWave app store.
The company boasted a 23% jump in sales of its ER/Studio database management, data modeling, and application development software in the Americas region for 2011. The product is used mainly by architects, database administrators, and data modelers.
