October 2015 | CURRENT EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Generally nice people that work on various teams. Close to home only if you're in the burbs

Downers

Upper management doesn't give a rats a** about employees. Base pay for is embarrassingly low for an experienced sales person. They sell it by saying that potential commission is so high... One of the many lies you'll be told. Here are a few things they don't tell you...your commissions can be clawed back up to 1 year from the date of sale, that a high percentage of your deals will unravel during implementation, that the tiered commission ( rep % increases as they get closer to annual goal), varying commission percentages paid depending on product, and usage of multiple spreadsheets for pay and pricing are all set up to make it next to impossible to track what you're owed. Also you will spend lots of time each day typing word doc approval requests. It's absolutely ridiculous for a TECHNOLOGY COMPANY to use such archaic methods, when they actually have SF where pricing, commission and approval process could be automated. Getting anything done is a nightmare, as the smallest approval request could take up to 2 weeks to be addressed by management . The micromanagement is a bit much and benefits are expensive

Advice to Candidates

Let this be the last stop before pizza delivery or the welfare office. If absolutely NOTHING else comes through, take the job and be looking for another ASAP, unless of course you enjoy long frustrating workdays with little reward

There could be worse "last resorts," but there can't be very many.

April 2015 | FORMER EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Applied gives its employees at all levels a lot of responsibility right off the bat, and employees will learn a lot about the software and insurance industries, and how business works in general. A lot of what an employee learns, though, will be how not to succeed in those areas.

Downers

Location is in the middle of nowhere, though the company may be moving to Atlanta in the near future. Grueling hours for criminally low pay and benefits that only get worse each year. No matter how hard they work or how much value they demonstrate, Applied's management sees its employees as completely fungible and will not hesitate to replace ingrates with people of questionable qualifications who will work for even less. Management also actively downplays lower-level employees' contributions and ideas, and steals credit (and corresponding rewards) at every opportunity.

Advice to Candidates

If you absolutely have no other choice, Applied is a decent place to get some rudimentary experience, but it's important to realize your future salary will never increase significantly more than what they start out paying you. You may be better off at a start-up, where there would actually be chance of earning what you're really worth someday.
