Uppers

Firm culture and opportunities for promotion.

Downers

Bad associates

Comments

Overall, I think Blair is a great firm to work at and one of the top investment banks any new graduate can work at. Compensation is competitive, and Blair has great transaction momentum. Analysts are given a lot of responsibility, including travel and client-facing opportunities.

Downers

At times, I feel that Blair is almost too polite in its hiring/firing decisions. If would make many employees significantly more motivated if we were more thoughtful in managing out employees

People are civilized and the culture humane

Comments

Blair is the only place to have a life resembling that of a normal person. The atmosphere is pleasant and collegial, the compensation in cash, and we don't fire 25% of the bankers every five years.

Good lifestyle, great culture, prestige in Chicago & Midwest

Downers

Analyst pay and perks eroding... Bonuses lower than in previous years, no more meal allowance or travel per diem. Associate-level talent very poor given that we recruit the second-tier talent at top-tier schools

Comments

Given lower comp and perks, more emphasis on analysts' lifestyle (e.g. issuing laptops with VPN to allow analysts to work from home on weekends). The firm is expanding, having opened several new offices in the past few years.
