Wells Fargo

4.0 of 5 stars

January 2016 | CURRENT EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Pay was competitive with others in the industry, which was nice

Downers

The quality of the work wasn't that interesting. All in all it felt like a pretty boring job

Comments

It is a good steady job, but if you are looking to be intellectually challenged, look elsewhere.

Home Mortgage Consultant

You are given the independent broker feel without the drawbacks. The assigment of Banks, PB and etc really helps the young HMC.

Downers

It is a dog eat dog market. You are totally subjected to the new Laws and Regs placed on residental lending.

Comments

Be eager to want to start you lending career with a drive.

Conservative bank with good movement forward

People are easy going and dedicated to company morals. Wells Fargo is still growing from its regional bank days so there is still lots of opportunity across business lines.

Downers

Not the most driven group. Executives set tone of stable management and calculated risks, filters down to employees doing their jobs but not much more proactively.

Comments

Show that you want to take initiative and will help the business grow. Know the values of the company, they matter.

Great place to work.... for ROBOTS.

6% match on 401K. that's about it. this is the place you go to get experience TO GET A BETTER JOB A YEAR LATER.

Downers

incompetent managers, EXTREMELY HIGH TURNOVER for people of color, bad managers are kept in place with almost zero accountability. EXTREME good ol boy network, and they don't take kindly to new people, or people with talent. middle management likes to ignore logic ( and in some cases laws) to suit their wants, or needs.

Compensation is extremely low compared to similar positions at other finance companies. Raises are seldom, and very, very low if offered at all. the benefit package sucks. IF one makes it to management, expect to be shipped across the country to podunk usa, only to be laid off a year later.

Comments

look elsewhere. IF you cant get a job anywhere else, then use the time to get experience for another company in the future. Expect to kiss a lot of butt, expect to do something slightly unethical to seek a promotion.

Full 6% match on 401K.
Room for growth opportunities, especially if you're willing to move.

Downers

Wells still can't figure out how to process a mortgage in a timely fashion. Too many cooks in the kitchen with no concept of the inane amount of bs work the HMC's have to do in order to submit a "complete file". Even when this happens, processors don't look at files for 30-45 days and then the HMC's bear the brunt of even the smallest error or mistake in the file. Everything is about the metrics. You could be closing $4M a month, but if you happen to forget to log your sales calls, watch out! You could be terminated.
Bonuses tied to customer satisfaction are a huge joke. If you get more than one 4 (out of 5) on three critical questions, the customer is deemed "not satisfied". You can't ask for 5's outright - that would be cheating, but you're penalized if you don't get all 5's.

Great vacation policy. Excellent benefits. Budgets are available to treat clients very well.

Downers

Old boy network. Lots of emphasis on looks for female employees. Incompetent and abusive management is kept on staff out of loyalty.

Comments

Can be a great position depending on who you're working for. The benefits are excellent but management can be a nightmare.

Well Paying, Little Growth, Easy Life

4.0 of 5 stars

February 2015 | FORMER EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Relaxing 40-hour week, 5 weeks PTO, low-pressure environment, high starting salary for BAs

Downers

very little internal growth. General "move out to move up" atmosphere

Comments

For an easy life, this is a great place to work. Very high achievers may either get bored or will have to test their patience moving up the ladder though.

I enjoy the core activity of managing exposure to troubled companies, but all the reporting requirements at times make the work cumbersome.
