Asset management review

4.0 of 5 stars

May 2015 | FORMER EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Comprehensive team and expertise, some issues with compliance liability and rule-breaking.

Downers

See uppers; compliance and Caremark liability issues abound since the financial crisis, reducing confidence in an otherwise very strong practice

Comments

Top European practice, not quite as strong in certain key areas in the US but still a major player, e.g. in Sales and trading and PWM.

M&A group at UBS has very lean deal teams so exposure to clients and MDs happens day 1

Downers

the lean team results in a very senior heavy group and has a negative impact on culture

New York, NY | 2010 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Caliber of people, learning/development environment and work-hard play-hard culture

Downers

The uncertainty of schedule because of client requests

Comments

Despite the long hours and schedule uncertainty that comes with I-Banking, I very much enjoy my job. I've learned a ton, been constantly challenged and work with amazing, intelligent, driven people.

The people. I think the nature of the work you do is standard across firms (not in terms of how dynamic some industries might be...ie Technology), but the culture varies greatly. People here are just a great group to be around.

Downers

It always comes down to the hours. But again, that's across the board. If banking where a 9-5, no weekend kind of deal...I'd be in heaven.

Comments

It is very challenging work. At the end of the day you can't help but be proud of yourself. The learning curve is steep. Once you start to understand how things fit together...only way is up. Again, can't see myself doing anything else.

Executive

Downers

It's been a challenging last few years with a lot of manager turnover

Comments

I have been at UBS for 12 years, so I guess I must enjoy it.
