Investment Banking Summer Associate

5.0 of 5 stars

November 2018 | CURRENT EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Multiple opportunities for live M&A deals and IPO experience
Working directly with the sr. banking team / CEO / CFO / Private Equity teams
Great mix of hands on experience and non-banking related outside networking activities that allow you to really get to know the people at the firm
You can clearly see the impact of the work you do
Extremely smart people
Doing what is best for the client and doing it right the first time

Downers

Long hours - but not as bad as my BB colleagues
Erratic schedule for always putting the client first

Advice to Candidates

The firm provides one of the most immersing internships on the street, you will get great M&A experience across industry groups as generalist (Industrials, Consumer, Healthcare, Tech & Services) and the deal flow is intense. One of the best decisions I made to choose Baird over the other offers in NY.

Glad I chose Baird instead of BB

August 2018 | CURRENT EMPLOYEE

Uppers

* Very friendly culture
* Dedicated to junior banker health and well-being. The COO has been known to send people home if they're working too hard,.
* Good pay in a low cost of living area
* Heavy PE focus in dealflow results in plenty of exit opportunities
* Employee owned with a long term focus, and a small annual bonus from profit sharing is always nice to have.

Downers

* Doesn't feel like it gets the respect it deserves
* Deal teams are small, typically 4-5 people total. Although you own the work, you also do all of the work.

Advice to Candidates

* Be nice, the "No ****" policy is very well observed. High quality people have been fired if they show **** behavior to their subordinates.

Advice to Candidates

Baird has one of the best cultures for investment banking. Early on, you're given a lot of responsibility as soon as you prove you can handle it so you feel like a very critical member of the team. It also allows you to get meaningful experience doing execution related work. The people here at the mid and senior level tend to have a tenure well excess of the industry average which speaks to the quality of experience in working here.
