Advice to Candidates

Ideal place to go to receive best in class training in M&A deal work, valuation, shareholder activism and restructuring. Place for alpha individuals who want to work directly with industry leading bankers on market leading transactions. Pace is fast, work is hard, expectations are high, but the rewards are best in industry training for a future career in finance whether at a corporate, a bank or at an investment fund.

Very rewarding. Lots of opportunities for career development, client interaction and to work on exciting transactions.

Entry-level in Mergers & Acquisitions | New York, NY | 2018 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Surrounded by world class people while immersed in the most complex and high profile deals possible.

Downers

Banking isn't for everyone.

I've worked on a breadth of premier transactions and proud of the major role I played on each; all while living an active personal life.

4.3 of 5 stars

Mid-level in Mergers & Acquisitions | New York, NY | 2018 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Strong deal flow of top transactions, highly strategic, steep learning curve, outstanding mentorship, great culture

Downers

High standards and pressure to perform, tough to take vacation

Advice to Candidates

My experience at Lazard the last 2-3 years are the complete opposite of rumors from 10 years ago that is a sharp-elbowed sweatshop. Lazard is a place for individuals who want to learn and advance rapidly in their skills as bankers and thrive taking on responsibility and new challenges. The firm has a strong focus on work-life balance and for people who actively manage their time and workload effectively, you have the flexibility to have some of the best balance on wall street.

The job is challenging and the reward is an opportunity to work with incredible colleagues, clients and be well compensated.

The challenge of the work, the quality of the clients and the leadership

Downers

Work hours can be challenging

Advice to Candidates

Look at the length of tenure of people at the firm you are interviewing with. Great firms retain great people and great people stay when they enjoy where they work.

I have enjoyed over 30 years at the firm working with great bankers and have built a wonderful team

Executive in Corporate Finance | New York, NY | 2018 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

High quality work, high quality colleagues, significant responsibility once earned, near vertical learning curve

Downers

If you don't want to be here, it will be hard

Advice to Candidates

I found that I thrived in this environment. While we have become softer and gentler in recent years, the basic proposition of the firm is still the same: the more you put in, the more you get out. It is a highly energized environment with smart people doing great work.

Small teams, interesting and complex deal experience, a place that values the individual and is manically focused on the client
