Archon is banking on gamblers to follow the trail of the Pioneer. Formerly Santa Fe Gaming, the embattled company owns and operates one casino, the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall, in Laughlin, Nevada. The Pioneer features some 400 guest rooms and gaming operations that consist of approximately 730 slot machines, six blackjack tables, one craps table, one roulette wheel, and five other gaming tables. The hotel includes two restaurants and bars, a special events area, banquet rooms, and a swimming pool and spa. Gaming accounts for more than half of revenues. Chairman and CEO Paul Lowden owns about 75% of the company.

In addition to local residents from Laughlin, Nevada, and the surrounding area, The Pioneer primarily targets older customers from Arizona and Southern California, as well as retirees from the Northeast, Midwest, and Canada who travel to the Southwest during the winter months. The casino emphasizes slot and video poker machine play, which account for about 90% of gaming revenues.

The company also owns a 27-acre lot on the Las Vegas strip. The site was once home to an amusement park operated by Palace Entertainment 's Wet 'n Wild. In addition to this property, Archon owns commercial office space in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Gaithersburg, Maryland, all of which generate income from leases.
