In the 19th century, people rushed to Cripple Creek, Colorado, seeking their fortune in gold. Today, thanks to Century Casinos, they can do basically the same thing (but via midsized regional casinos, rather than through prospecting). The company's Womacks Casino & Hotel in Cripple Creek offers some 440 slot machines and video devices, as well as a handful of gaming tables. It also owns the Century Casino & Hotel in Central City, Colorado, and another Century Casino & Hotel in Edmonton, Canada. In addition, it operate four cruise ship casinos and is the casino concessionaire for cruise lines run by TUI Cruises, a joint venture between German travel operator TUI and #2 cruise ship operator Royal Caribbean.
After a period of major expansion, Century Casinos has been focused on upgrading its properties and making targeted acquisitions. In early 2010 the company acquired the Silver Dollar casino in Alberta, Canada, from struggling Evergreen Gaming for some $9.5 million. It spent nearly $2 million to renovate the gaming floor and dining area at Womacks during 2008.
Outside of North America, Century Casinos continues to own a controlling stake in Casinos Poland Ltd. (CPL), owner and operator of eight casinos in Poland. Century Casinos owns 33% of CPL, and in 2012 the company agreed to up its stake to 66.6%.
After a experiencing decreased gaming revenue at all of its properties during the global recession, the company disposed of its properties in the Czech Republic and South Africa. It sold the Caledon Hotel, Spa & Casino near Cape Town, South Africa, to Tsogo Sun Gaming in 2009. The deal included a 60% stake in Century Casino Newcastle. Also that year it sold its Century Casino Millennium in the Marriott hotel in Prague to Viva Casino Group.
