Named after a geographic area that sounds like an angler's dream, Snapping Shoals Electric Membership Corporation (Snapping Shoals EMC) distributes electricity to 95,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in an 8-county region in the southeastern portion of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The member-owned cooperative also provides competitive retail natural gas supply services to customers through Snapping Shoals Energy Management Company, a partnership with SCANA. Snapping Shoals EMC also offers security systems, surge protection services, and security lighting options.
The cooperative is also a member of Green Power EMC, which analyzes and negotiates power purchase agreements with Georgia-based renewable resource providers to allow member EMCs to access "greener" power supplies, in order to conserve energy and help protect the environment.
Formed in 1938 as part of the national rural electrification drive, Snapping Shoals EMC's service territory covers parts of Butts, DeKalb, Henry, Jasper, Morgan, Newton, Rockdale, and Walton counties.
