The Green Valley Pecan Company owns about 6,000 acres of pecan
trees just south of Tucson, Arizona. The orchards produce the crop
from which Green Valley manufactures approximately 8 million pounds
a year of shelled, roasted and unroasted, whole, halved, chopped,
and ground pecans. Green Valley grows the Western Schley and
Wichita varieties of pecans, which are suited to the high Sonoran
Desert environment of its orchards. Vertically integrated, the
company raises, harvests, processes, packages, and ships its crop.
Established in 1948 by the late Keith Walden on a ranch that in the
early 1900s grew guayule plants for rubber, Green Valley Pecan is
today owned and operated by Keith's son, Richard.
