This farm raises a lot of quackers and cluckers. Maple Leaf
Farms is a leading poultry producer known mostly for its duck and
chicken products. As part of its business, the company processes
some 16 million ducks a year sourced from 140 partner
farms. The firm's products include duck legs, duck
breasts, and whole duck, as well as a variety
of value-added items. Maple Leaf Farms sells chicken products
under the Milford Valley Farms and Mighty Bites brand names. In
addition to consumer products, the company supplies both retailers
and foodservice operators with its products. The family-owned
business was founded in 1958 by the late Donald Wentzel. It's run
by Wentzel's son-in-law Terry Tucker.
In response to rising feed costs, Maple Leaf Farms closed its
processing plant in Wisconsin during 2008. The company
has expanded production at its Milford, Indiana, facility to
take up the slack.
