There are probably a lot of breath mints available at Christopher Ranch, the largest garlic producer in the US. Christopher Ranch sells dozens of types of fresh and jarred garlic, as well as specialty onions, sun-dried tomatoes, broccoli, dried chilies, herbs, and spices. Christopher Ranch, nestled in California's Santa Clara Valley, ships more than 60 million pounds of garlic every year to foodservice companies and grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway, and Whole Foods. Its garlic is also exclusively used in Michael Angelo's frozen foods. Christopher Ranch was founded in 1953 by brothers Don and Art Christopher. Don's son Bill now runs the company.
The company is known for cultivating French and Italian varieties of garlic for their large, flavorful bulbs. Also, Christopher Ranch, under Bill's direction, has cultivated a seed stock that is designated as heirloom. Today, the company's Monviso-branded garlic is the only heirloom garlic commercially grown on US soil.
To make its products more sustainable and easier on the environment, the company has been phasing out jars in favor of resealable, recyclable plastic pouches.
The garlic provider also co-founded the Gilroy Garlic Festival and has helped to put home city Gilroy on the map as the Garlic Capital of the World.
