When you're flying, you want the pilot to see everything he or she needs to see, and so does Luminescent Systems. A unit of Astronics, Luminescent Systems makes high-performance lighting systems for commercial aircraft, which represents approximately 60% of sales; it also makes systems for private/business and military aircraft -- each accounting for about 20% of sales. Products include cabin emergency lighting, cockpit lighting, and formation lighting systems. Luminescent Systems operates two manufacturing facilities in the US (East Aurora, New York; and Lebanon, New Hampshire) and one in Canada (Quebec). Customers include the US military, as well as Panasonic Avionics, Bombardier (Learjet), and Boeing.
Over 80% of sales are generated in North America. Sales in general and the company's growth are contingent on the number of new aircraft produced; production takes its cue from the economy, as well as government and military program funding. While Luminescent's products may be part of the design for a new aircraft, their aftermarket use in refurbishments and upgrades is also a major factor in the company's total sales.
