SAFRAN USA (formerly Snecma USA) operates on the fly. The holding company coordinates parent SAFRAN's operations, serving aircraft and industrial parts makers throughout Canada, Mexico, and the US. SAFRAN USA operates some 35 companies in almost 20 US states. Its lineup includes commercial and military aircraft engines, aircraft braking and landing systems, and navigation systems for submarines. Subsidiary MorphoTrust USA offers biometric and identification management products and services to federal, state, and local governments and commercial markets. When SAFRAN USA's former parent Snecma was acquired by SAFRAN, Snecma USA was renamed SAFRAN USA.
The company's MorphoTrust USA subsidiary was formed from the merger of three divisions of L-1 Identity Solutions, an identity management firm acquired by Safran. Operating more than 1,200 services centers throughout the US, MorphoTrust's products and services are focused specifically on the needs of the US market. Customers have included the FBI and Department of Defense.
In 2012 Safran's Morpho Detection unit, which provides explosives and narcotics detection technology, won an order from the US Transportation Security Administration for maintenance of Morpho Itemiser DX desktop explosives trace detection units, which are used at airport checkpoints, checked baggage and air cargo screening points, and other security-sensitive sites.
