When this agency goes fishing, it reels in advertisers searching for better online search campaigns. Razorfish (formerly Avenue A | Razorfish) is a digital advertising agency that helps its clients better utilize digital channels. It provides services such as strategic planning, Web design, media buying, and campaign analysis to ad serving, search engine marketing, e-mail marketing, and creative services. It targets customers in the financial services, pharmaceutical, retail, technology, and travel sectors. Clients have included big names such as McDonald's, Coors, and Carnival. Razorfish was acquired by media conglomerate Publicis Groupe in late 2009.
Already owning such prominent digital agencies as Digitas and Publicis Modem, Publicis' $530 million acquisition of Razorfish further solidified its position in the cutting-edge digital marketing arena. To eliminate redundancies, Publicis in late 2009 began integrating the international management and support teams belonging to Digitas and Razorfish. Razorfish has operations in Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Spain, and the UK.
Avenue A | Razorfish was formed in 2004 when aQuantive bought the Razorfish unit of SBI Group, adding Web consulting and interactive marketing services to Avenue A's offerings. It shortened its name to Razorfish in late 2008. (aQuantive was acquired by Microsoft in late 2007 and was folded into its Microsoft Advertiser and Publisher Solutions Group.)
