Corporate America comes to Burrell to get some street cred. Burrell Communications Group specializes in developing advertising and marketing campaigns targeted to African-American consumers and the urban market. It also offers expertise in reaching consumers in the general and youth marketplaces. The advertising agency provides services such as brand consulting, account planning, public relations, event marketing, and research in addition to its creative work. Burrell's clients have included McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Toyota, General Mills, Verizon, Marriott International, Nielsen Media Research, and Bacardi. French ad giant Publicis Groupe owns 49% of the shop, which was founded by Thomas Burrell in 1971.
The agency is widely recognized as a pioneer of targeted marketing to black consumers and of using African-American-inspired cultural trends (from areas including music, fashion, dance, and sports) to reach other consumer groups. Burrell has offices in Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
