Pass and pocket cash

An ideal candidate for HA&W would have a degree in accounting (preferably a master's), having had 150 semester hours completed by graduation.  It should be noted that any entry-level and staff accountants that wish to be promoted to more advanced positions need to take and pass the CPA exam.  But never fear.  Due to the firm's PTO (personal time off) policy, employees are able to use some of their 16 allotted days for studying for the exam, while actual exam dates do not count towards the total.  If you pass, you will be rewarded a full $750.

Those who are still in school and still deciding on an occupation are urged to visit the company website, which has a section dedicated to college recruitment.  This section gives everything from accounting resources to job descriptions.  And better yet, it has employee videos, which detail the daily life of an HA&W staff accountant.

One way to apply for a position is to complete the online form, or send a resume and cover letter to Heather Stroud at heather.stroud@hawcpa.com.  However, there are other ways to get the firm's attention, starting with college career fairs and "meet the firm" events.  The college recruitment page also goes in depth of this process, and explains the three steps needed to ensure that you can walk out of the door with a job on your hands.

OUR SURVEY SAYS

Friendly folks

"People are friendly and work hard" at HA&Q, even though there's "not always a lot of communication from senior management," according to insiders.  "Sometimes employees are left to decipher "secondhand information."  The hours, however, do tend to be fairly "steady throughout the year" and run anywhere from 40 to 60 hours per week.  Weekend work is "rare" (except for the busy season).   Management is good about giving staff "flexibility," and there's generally a "lack of micromanagement" within the office.  And staff members enjoy that there's "a lot of opportunity" to grow at the firm.
