Fiducial

Financial services with a French twist

Now a massive global operation with 12,900 employees, Fiducial began in 1970 when French accountant Christian Latouche opened an accounting firm, Sofinarex.  He also established SOFIRAL, a law firm and tax consultancy that focused exclusively on services for small businesses.  Latouche's concept was simple: give the world's smallest companies the same kind of high-quality, internationally-networked services that major multinational corporations receive.  And while you're at it, buy as many small companies as possible.

Latouche began acquiring smaller accounting, tax and business services practices, building a network modeled on Big 4 accounting firms.  With each acquisition came business diversification -- in 1981 Latouche unveiled a data processing subsidiary; in 1992 Fiducial entered the office supplies and printing market via the purchase of a European company called SACI.  Fiducial targeted the United States in the late 1990s, making a series of acquisitions from 1999 to 2001.  It picked up a handful of firms to establish its presence, and has continued to buy American in recent years.

Diverse as ever

As a global provider of tax, payroll, financial and business services, Fiducial still follows Christian Latouche's vision of serving small businesses, individuals and entrepreneurs.  In the United States, the firm has business and tax advisors in more than 150 company-owned and franchise offices; it has another 500 offices throughout Europe.  A Technical Administrative Support Center (TASC) in Maryland provides back office support to Fiducial offices and franchises across the country.

In addition to its professional services lineup, Fiducial Support Systems provides assistance in payroll, HR, marketing, technical applications and research and development.  The firm's still in the international office supplies and furniture business, too, thanks to SACI, and Sofiral remains an operating law practice in France.

Firm founder Christian Latouche is global chairman and chief executive of the Fiducial empire, but United States operations are overseen by executive vice president Yves Morard-Lacroix.  The company is privately held, with annual global revenues in excess of $1.2 billion - making it the 13th-largest accounting firm in the world.  In the United States, Fiducial offices and franchise members collectively clear more than $500 million each year.
