Lots of opportunity if you're willing to work for it

Uppers

Good culture, upward mobility if you have the right skill set, interest in increasing diversity at the leadership level

Downers

Different office cultures across departments and locations

Advice to Candidates

The firm invests in several initiatives that are run by staff below the partner level, including a Management Advisory Board, a Staff Advisory Board, committee positions on the Armanino Foundation, the Women's Advancement Network, a Culture Committee in each office, etc. These give staff members the chance to demonstrate leadership potential and get to know senior and executive management. This firm is in a constant state of change and continuous improvement, and staff members have the opportunity to affect the choices made by senior leadership. You can cruise doing medium-level work here as a staff / senior for a long time, but there are ways to improve your chances at moving up if you are willing to put in the extra effort in your own knowledge and to take on firm-level work.

Work/life balance; benefits; being able to carve your own path where appropriate

Advice to Candidates

I think Armanino is an amazing place to start your career. They are very supportive in the process to obtaining your CPA, even going so far as to finance the purchase of any required studying materials and examination fees. The major firms will always be there. Try something unknown and exciting while you are young and get your CPA out of it. You can always make the decision to move on if you find it isn't a good long-term option for you.
