Admission is not easy but the process is made very smooth. Once you have submitted your application, you get feedback very quickly. I think one key of success for the essay is to be personal. I've talked to some members of the jury afterward and they all told me they were paying much attention to sincerity and personal details, as HEC is aiming at selecting individuals with rich experience to contribute to the program. One important point is the level of service during the interview process. They are really trying to make it easier for you in terms of logistics. The two 10-minute interviews were very stressful but the Q&A session and the discussion were enjoyable and provided good insight into the school life. Whole process from submission to admission and scholarship decision lasted less than 20 days!
Admissions: The School Says
The HEC MBA Program attracts exceptional students from around the world. The rigorous online selection process seeks an overall balance between academic achievement, professional experience, international exposure, and personal motivation. Knowledge of French is not an entry requirement, but participants are highly encouraged to have a minimum knowledge of French at the start of the MBA Program.
In addition to completing an online application, all candidates must present an official university transcript; official GMAT test scores; TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC results, if applicable; two letters of recommendation; and essay responses. Pre-selected candidates are invited to attend evaluation interviews conducted on campus or in designated cities around the world.

The classes are challenging, the schedule is very demanding and there are a lot of guest speakers and alumni events. During the core phase, the workload is quite heavy and there is an emphasis on team work as well as presentations. In addition, there are many very talented professions and a wide variety of core and elective courses.

The employment opportunity is very good! The MBA has many company contacts and a lot of opportunity in banking, consulting and every industry out there. There are five career fairs a year on campus and that does not include the ones not offered on campus. Most of the program's students attain jobs at investment banks, consulting firms, top fashion companies and real estate firms. A few others go into the automotive and energy industry but that comes second to the first four listed.
The school says: "On an annual basis, HEC MBA participants take advantage of three on-campus career fairs and one off campus career fair. In April 2004, the off-campus career fair took place in London. In April 2005, the fair took place in Paris."

Life at HEC is great. You bond with your classmates from the beginning of the course. The student association (BDE) coordinates two annual trips (one is always a ski trip) to allow people to interact outside campus. Every week there is a social activity on campus where students can have a drink and relax (and, if a few feel inclined, dance).
The housing available on the HEC campus is ideal. A small percentage of students have to live outside of campus. The school has available housing off campus or you can rent from the local market. If you live off campus, you will need to get a car or, better yet, car pool with other students in the same housing complex. HEC is one of the few business schools with a campus. There are soccer fields, track, tennis courts and basketball courts. The gym has a minuscule weight room in comparison to large U.S. universities. Nearby there is a golf course and pool available to HEC students, as well.

The social aspect of HEC is by far its strongest selling point. Because the class is small (120 people in the September start and 60 in the January start), everybody knows everybody and the group is very tight-knit. This makes for a lot of fun when the groups go out. I must stress that a large part of this is dependent on the personality of the students in each intake. Some intakes are very party oriented, while others are more study oriented. In any case, I am having a great time here. On campus, there is a piano bar in the MBA dorm, which is run by the student government. Beer is cheap. The atmosphere totally depends on how many students come down to the bar. There were stretches where it was open seven days a week until 3 a.m. or later. Now, though, a lot of the party people have moved to Paris and the piano bar is pretty slow.
