Weil taps McKinsey for strategy review

Weil Gotshal & Manges, apparently unfazed by the consulting giant's recent shortcomings (see: "disaster" for White & Case), has hired McKinsey & Company to conduct a major strategy review. Weil, having developed something of a reputation for itself as a first-mover in quite a few now-standard practice areas, is almost certainly seeking to extend this reputation with the help of the world's most celebrated business strategists. Analysts say that Weil, as urged by executive partner Barry Wolf, could see a major strengthening of the firm's international operations as a result of the engagement —particularly in Asia, perceived as Big Law's next major hunting ground. McKinsey is expected to wrap up the review before the end of the year. Will we catch a glimpse of the next big trend in law, or will McKinsey's luster be further tarnished in the eyes of attorneys worldwide? Stay tuned.
