As reported in The Blog of Legal Times, Tuesday’s panel on “Managing the Law Firm Labor Force” at Georgetown’s  “Law Firm Evolution” conference, highlighted some provocative notions about lawyer layoffs. According to research by two business school professors, Paul Oyer and Scott Schaefer, younger lawyers are more likely to be laid off than older lawyers and “school-based networks” carry more weight than law school reputation. In other words, whether your JD says Harvard Law School or Thomas M. Cooley Law School makes little difference when pink slips are doled out—unless a partner in your office happened to go to the same school.
