Happy [tasteful and appropriate] Halloween

 Law

The National Law Journal—not The Onion—asked some labor and employment attorneys about liability issues arising from Halloween costumes in the workplace. The responses do little to counter stereotypes of lawyers as fuss-budget killjoys.

What not to wear:

-Ghosts or goblins
(Could offend someone's religious beliefs)

-French maids, naughty nurses, kittens, togas, Tarzans and construction workers
(Because of the danger of ‘lewd comments’)

-Political costumes
(People are…tense)

-‘Fat pumpkins’
Can trigger a slip-and-fall claim when/if the drunken pumpkin falls over)

Buzzkill bottom line: “If you're going to permit wearing costumes, be sure that managers as well as employees are reminded of their responsibility to be circumspect in what they do.”  Other than that, party on.
