Good news, bad news

–    The legal sector lost 2,000 jobs last month.
+    On the other hand, “no major law firms have folded since the dissolution of WolfBlock in March.”

–    Six days into October, we’ve already seen the layoffs of dozens of BigLaw staff and staff attorneys.
+    But those willing to pink-slip themselves might walk out with a nice severance package.

–    More firms are looking to outsource legal work to India and South Africa.
+    But you can still find work closer to home. While in this market, there’s no shame in taking any job that pays the rent, this position even encourages the wearing of a mask so no one need know the depths to which you have sunk.

And, just to close with an uncharacteristically optimistic note:

+    Several lucky Katten Muchin Rosenman associates get to start work early.
+    Bonuses are in sight for DLA Piper-ites.
