When they say "Take Care," they actually mean it

Published: Apr 01, 2009

Good news, for those of you who are soon to be laid off and don't have health insurance. (Well, everything is relative.) Take Care, the set of health clinics owned by Walgreen, is offering free visits for men and women who lose their jobs on or after March 31. (Usually a stopover at the clinic costs $59.) The deal also applies to family members who are similarly insurance-less. Quest Diagnostics, which handles Take Care's lab work, will throw in certain tests -- strep and urine, for example -- for free as well.

There are restrictions, of course -- one must show proof of unemployment benefits, and hours are limited to weekdays between 11 am and 3 pm -- but the value of the service far outweighs any potential hassle. For further information, check out the Walgreen press release , or drop by any of the 700 Take Care wellness centers sited within your local Walgreen retail stores or at various large-employer campuses.
