What comes after the print media Ice Age?

Published: Aug 04, 2009

The fortunes of the newspaper and magazine industries, on the way down since the middle of the decade, have been among the hardest hit in the recession (see The Tribune Company). Many would say that's at least partly their own fault: They acknowledged the rise of the Internet far too late and failed to rejigger their business model accordingly. Pink Slipped certainly appreciates the ideals and values of journalistic integrity, even as the digital world (usually) conspires to erode them. That's why we're asking all current and former newshounds and writers -- and anyone who just needs to wrestle with a physical newspaper now and again -- to read Ian Shapira's piece "The Death of Journalism (Gawker Edition)".

What do newspaper people do after the newspapers all close up shop? Maybe, somehow, one of you will come up with the magic formula that will save the dinosaurs industry from extinction.
