Think before you Tweet

You've read about hapless losers who get fired for what they've pasted on their homepage and/or MySpace/Facebook accounts. The lesson? For the thousandth time, people: Don't post anything online that could come back later to bite you in the butt. The same goes for Twitter, of course. Fast Company has helpfully published a bunch of real tweets (compiled by resumebear.com) that could be potentially hazardous for one's career, if read by the wrong person.

It's amazing how much damage one can do in the space of 140 characters. Of all those included, Pink Slipped finds this one particularly entertaining: "I am currently trying to decide what disease to fake so I can leave work early today. I have it narrowed down to lupus or scurvy"

If you don't have time to read them all, here's a handy guide: Don't tweet about
1. Sleeping with the boss.
2. Lying to the boss.
3. Hating the boss.

Is there anything you've Twittered about lately that could qualify as probably-not-the-best-way-to-advance-a-career? Send it along! (Your secrets are safe with us.)
