Report Predicts Shortage of Personnel Required for Climate C

Are you considering a career change? If the answer is yes, a promising avenue for professionals appears to be in the field of climate change and sustainability. In a report released jointly yesterday by the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute and Sequence Staffing, which surveyed ?senior managers and experienced professionals who work on climate change issues for private, not-for-profit and governmental sectors across the globe? says that most of them believe there is a shortage of experts ?who have the skills that are necessary to address climate change, including measuring and mitigating greenhouse gases.?

Nearly everyone who took the survey predicted a 25 percent growth in the climate change industry in 2010, likely to be spurred by President Obama?s promise on self-sustainability and a move towards instilling stronger carbon measure programs.

The report also suggests that a majority of the surveyed felt shortage of personnel for the industry will remain a problem for the foreseeable future. Interestingly, 82 percent of the respondents also said educational institutions are not doing enough to increase awareness of the issue(s) and create academic programs for students to get equipped with the skill sets necessary to work in the sector?specifically in greenhouse gas accounting and management skills.
