Reinvent Your Career at LaidOffCamp

Published: Apr 27, 2009

Hopefully you have had a productive, sun-soaked Monday, because you now have just a shade over four days until a great New York City event where you can further expand your job search (West Coast readers take heart and scroll down, we didn’t forget about you).

Enterprising individuals in professional transition will have a unique opportunity to gain perspective, discover new passions, and reinvent their careers at LaidOffCampNY. The free two-day event will offer this and more to job seekers and the self-employed, it is directed toward entry- to mid-level digital media, advertising, publishing, technology and financial service professionals.

The format features an open, participatory discussion forum designed to educate, empower, and connect community members. Panels, workshops, and discussions will focus on building your personal brand, transitioning to a new industry, legal & accounting demands of launching a new business, finding affordable health insurance, alternative working spaces, alternative income sources, and how to become a freelancer.

The event is open to anyone, so feel free to bring along your employed friends. Also, while the event is, as mentioned, totally free of charge, tax-deductable (!) donations can be made to Grassroots.org. Ticket information and event details are available here.

Also, not to be outdone, the Left Coast will have their own version of LaidOffCamp at Blank Spaces in Los Angeles, CA. The LA version will also take place this Friday. Future LaidOffCamp events to be on the lookout for in other cities include Miami on June 6 and Chicago on June 10.
