Radio made the resume star

Published: Aug 06, 2009

Pressure from the sketchy jobs situation has forced people to get creative (see various YouTube appeals, sandwich boards, T-shirts, keychain freebies, etc.) to make themselves stand out. Now there's another way. Clear Channel's KHHT-FM (Hot 92.3) in L.A. has set aside five air-time "spots" per week to broadcast 30-second "radio resumes." Participating job hunters were selected from entries they submitted online; after some coaching, the individuals produce audio spots that sound polished and professional.

Though the parent company is sponsoring the company-wide effort, so far just a handful of Clear Channel's 850 member stations have aired such "elevator pitches." And there's no word on how effective the program has been. But sending a message to millions of listeners and potential employers at once is certainly an efficient way to market oneself.
