Pete Seeger will get you through the recession

Published: May 04, 2009

At Sunday night's star-studded 90th birthday tribute to singer songwriter Pete Seger, Bruce Springsteen introduced the folk legend to the Madison Square Garden crowd, saying "He's gonna look a lot like your granddad tha twears flannel shirts and funny hats. He's gonna look like your granddad if your granddad can kick your ass. At 90, he remains a stealth dagger through the heart of our country's illusions about itself." Apparently, Pete knows best. With that in mind, take a look at some of his thoughts on surviving the recession, from an interview with New York Magazine's Steven Kurutz.

He owns one banjo, drives a used, electric-powered truck (bought from Electric Vehicles of America twelve years ago), powers his house and truck with solar collectors, and chops his own firewood: "It's one reason I'm alive that I still like to split wood. That's my idea of a pleasant half-hour."
